Living History

Preserving History

Since 1997, Beckwourth members have performed historical re-enactments of African American Denver residents from the mid-1800's to the early 1900’s. The Beckwourth Living History programs, through partnerships with collaborating organizations, have educated over 500,000 youth, adults and seniors about the contributions made by people-of-color in the settlement of the West. Beckwourth Historical Re-Enactors in authentic period costume portray Jim Beckwourth, Aunt Clara Brown, Barney Ford, Julia Ford, Edward Sanderlin, Hattie Sanderlin, Lewis Price, Frederick Douglass, Jr., Madame C.J. Walker, O.T. Jackson, Minerva Jackson, Mary Randolph, Dr. Justina Ford, Winks Hamlett, and others.

Please contact us to schedule a Living History Program.
